Slave/You Know: Disputing Decoys!
by Utopian Reformist ini find it interesting and amusing that "slave" posts opinions concerning the coming great tribulation, and then the information is systematically "adjusted" and "qualified" for the benefit of the viewers by "you know".
ok. i will humor the supposition.
apparently, "slave/you know" would like us to engage in a discussion concerning the destruction of the taliban by the anglo-american coalition as evidence of the beginning of the biblical tribulation.. first of all, the taliban is not an islamic sect.

First of all, the taliban is NOT an islamic sect. Even if they were, it would not constitute the destruction of islam as it exists today. There are dozens of islamic sects, as in all religions, raging from mild to extreme. Just to name a few; there are:
Ahmadiyya (Qaddani)
Shia'ism (Shiite)
Sufism
Sunni
Druze
Salafis
Bahai'and many, many more around the world. It's like imaging that the dismantling of the "British Royal Family" would mean the end of protestantism. Nice try!

Questions about Athletic Activities while a JW
by AjaxMan inhi, everyone.. on my researches about the jdubs.
i read that they are restricted or forbidden from engaging in activities such as sports, working out in a gym or in martial arts.. i, who does all three, have a question for the members of this forum:.
when you were a jw, could you do any of the three activities mentioned?.

Show me an article that FORBIDS weight training? I think most articles have always warned against taking time away from meetings and service to engage in certain activities not forbid them entirely.
Now, most of my Bethel friends were all weight lifters and I have always lifted weights before and after the Borg. However, you are correct about the warning to avoid after-school activities. That has always been the stance, avoid cheerleading, avoid varsity sports, etc..
I think the new literature is more vague about these matters.

What do you think would happen if aliens landed?
by Abaddon inlet's paint a little picture.. it's spring 2002. at 1200h gmt a radio and tv announcement is broadcast on almost all conventional frequencies, in appropriate formats according to the medium and the area.. it's from a bunch of pale violet humaniods who have come "in peace for all qw'z'x>kind".
they say they want to meet up with the un in full cnongress.. disbelief rapidly turns to amasement when cnn and other news-services provide footage of a large alien vessel descending into the river near the un.
large in this case means 5km long... and wisely, none of the sac jets sent to have a look pull a will smith or anything stupid, although one gets nudgeed gently away by an invisable beam of some sort when it gets too close.. let's say it becomes apparent the aliens are utter benign, happy to hand out technological aid, scientific knowledge, and hope to welcome the people of earth to your typical peaceful federation of planets (about 5,00 different species all told).. how do you think people would react?

If a highly advanced, intellectual and technological society existed beyond our current investigation, why would they interact with our planet?
They would probably have already examined us in detail, and have already compiled a multi-faceted historical analysis of us on many fronts and determined we are inferior, self-destructive, retrogressive and harmful to our own environment.
I think, in my own opinion, that if such an elevated being existed, it would consider us in the same way we consider a colony of fleas. Perhaps, even less. A highly ordered society with advanced resources and materials might not be enticed by our "gold and platinum" and probably taken physics way beyond the nuclear age and maybe have even mastered time continuums.

High Standards in "the world" ??
by IWish4Truth inyes, im a newbie here, so my idea is to get the different viewpoints of people with different experience, strength, and possibly some hope to offer.
it's quite obvious to me that my view on certain matters upset some but; oh well.
i can handle it.

To "IWish4Truth":
Standards are created to organize functions, methods and processes into adaptable and recognizable concepts for external use and acceptance. Hence the existence of organizations like "The American National Standards Institute" (ANSI) and "The International Standards Organization" (ISO).
Many of these organizations arrive and/or develop global standards for the things we do in everyday life by forming joint committees made up of experts, leaders, scientists, business people, etc..
If the ISO did not exist, this post would not be visible to you right now. You couldn't play a CD-ROM in your computer (ISO Standard 9660), nor do much else.
There are millions of standards in place, created by thousands of committees working within a few dozen major organizations like the ISO. Whether a religious fanatic believes it or not, humans are capable of organizing and standardizing for things other than religion.
If your issue concerns standards of conduct and personal behavior and moral codes, that is another topic altogether. Even there, you will find many surprises. Namely, you don't have to be religious to appreciate and understand the benefit of responsible human behavior and being a productive member of society. Investigate, don't magistrate!

I think Canada is MUCH cleaner and more sanitary (from a public perspective) than the United States.
I think Canadians as a whole are much more esthetically pleasing than the average american of any flavor.
I think Canadian resturaunts serve better authentic quality gourmet cuisine which is always reasonably priced (based on my experiences in Montreal and Quebec) and more accessbile.
Try making reservations at Il Molino in Manhattan for a few laughs.
I think Canadians are better drivers and more intuitive than americans, excepting Californians, of course.
Those are my thoughts about all things "Canuck".

Abbadon:
I quoted George Harrison because those few words are very heavy indeed. I did not quote him because he "knew" something about politics or God. I don't know what his personal beliefs were nor am I interested.
He said that searching for God was the most urgent cause. I agree. I am not basing my beliefs on this or anything else George may have said or done. I mentioned his quote because it was recent and relevant to the subject.
I think you ran away with it so I had to bring you back.

I find myself in the middle of the road these days, neither leaning too much in either direction. However, certain images trouble me a great deal and cause me to continue hoping for real truth.
The images of human suffering around the globe plague me with fear. The more I hear about natural disasters, hunger, illness, war, the more saddened and fearful I become. Amongst this planet of billions, who at times may seem like nothing more than insects scurrying about in different situations, there are creatures I know by name and personally love.
I want none of them, nor anyone else for that matter to ever have to undergo suffering. It hurts to think that humans are just another species, and that all of our knowledge and accomplishment is temporary and there is no real hope. It's just not enough.
I think I will keep searching. George Harrison said there was no cause more urgent than the search for God.

ExJw And Abortions
by tyydyy inwe all know the jw view of abortion before leaving but what about now?
how have your views changed?
i used to secretly cheer when i heard that women had gained more rights concerning abortions.

It's funny. I would rather advocate government sponsored mandatory sterilization of certain members of society, than have to deal with the abortion issue.
For example, if a man is a convicted rapist, then I would condone the forcible sterilization of such a person. Some reasons are; the person is not fit to be a productive parent or member of society; the person could become a molester; the offspring could become state dependents, and then grow to become dysfunctional and criminalistic.
Then, there are the overly promiscuous and irresponsible charges of the state, still depending on assistance. If a person does not make efforts to improve education, to enroll in helpful programs, or make efforts to control and guide their lives in a well-adjusted and productive manner, then they should qualify for forcible sterilization. Now before any race cards are drawn, remember I said efforts and more than 50% of welfare recipients are white!
Now, I covered criminals and socially irresponsible people. But, what about other cases, like religionists and fanatics (Mormons with 50 children, etc...Muslims with many children, etc..) depending on circumstances, people who insist on having additional children and cannpot support them without assistance and extra support, they too should be forcibly sterilized.
If you want to decrease societies monumental burdens, then responsibility is necessary. It doesn't do much good to debate over symptoms and fixes while ignoring causes.

Thank you very much, Randy! Thanks for clearing things up a bit. Like many new adventurers on their way out of the WTBS, I wasn't able to find compatibility with your web-site back then, but now after hearing about your changes, and the events that took place after RAY FRANZ departed, I better understand your focus.
I appreciate your hard work and courage, as I have mentioned numerous times. You have alot of guts and you still care about people. I couldn't become one particle of an atom of the type of christian who still believes and still gives humans a chance.
About your education, I was only curious because of the title "exit counselor". Thx for updating me and I look forward to all of the changes! best wishes and agape
